Common Operating Systems Today

The most common operating systems used today are Windows, Apple OS X, iOS, Linux, and Android. These systems are integrated in our everyday tech devices such as computers and phones, they provide a platform for applications to run on and many other features.

Growing up I've always been familiar with Windows and Apple. I remember as an elementary student there were Apple computers in our class and at home my father had a Windows computer, so I got a taste of both worlds. It wasn't until my teenage years till I was introduced to iOS around 2011 which caused a shift in how we operate our phones because of how innovative it was at the time.

In conclusion, companies for the most part pull ideas from each other all the time so none of these operating systems are complicated to use if you only used one of them your entire life, they're very similar in some ways.

  1. Anthony, I agree the common operating systems are similar with minor differences. I grew up with Apple both at school and home. At work, we had a Microsoft Windows, so I drifted away from Apple, and it wasn't until the introduction of the Personal Electronic Devices that I was introduced to iOS and Android systems because of work. I didn't want a smartphone and resisted for the longest time but finally due to my responsibilities finally had to have one so learned how to use those operating systems. Weird story, my brother's home network uses Linux so when I visit him, I was exposed to it.

  2. Great insights! It's interesting to hear about your experience with different operating systems. It's true that many of us are introduced to specific systems early on, shaping our preferences. The evolution of iOS, especially in 2011, did indeed bring significant changes to how we operate our phones. Your point about companies drawing inspiration from each other is spot on—innovation often involves building on existing ideas. It's reassuring to know that, despite their differences, these operating systems share similarities, making it easier for users to adapt. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

  5. Hi Anthony, it is true that companies use to get their ideas among themselves. This shows that the knowledge should be shared across for the benefits of human evolution. Finally, what we receive from the industry is the best quality as it is accessed by many companies in that field.

  6. I also shared the same experience as you, growing up with both Windows and Apple devices because of school and family. I also agree with everyone else that all of these devices are quite similar to each other, and I think it's great how despite the competition amongst these companies we're ultimately creating technology that tries to better our everyday lives.

  9. Hi Anthony! Your comparison to the different types of operating systems is really interesting to read, as I have honestly never really put much thought it. One can really see the inspiration each of these companies create for each other and the minor differences can make all computers user friendly, while creating challenges because of the differences.
